covid statement 1

We are delighted to be re-opening on the 4th of July and we are looking forward to seeing people back at the museum. We have missed you!

However we have to do things differently to keep all our staff and visitors safe in accordance with the Public Health guidelines.

We have been preparing for this for some time and the entire museum now has 2M guide marks through the floor plan as well as multiple sanitising stations and especially at each of the exhibits. We pride ourselves in being a Hands On museum but for now that will have to be curtailed.

We are limiting the number of people within the building to 50 at any one time – so we do ask for your patience if this causes any delays on entry – your safety is our concern.

Unfortunately due to social distancing requirements we are unable to conduct group guided tours at this time. But we have updated the information available at each exhibit so that you can learn about them in your own time. Our staff will be on hand (and behind face coverings) to help our visitors but this will be on a more individual basis and responding to questions rather than the full tour experience.

We look forward to welcoming you safely back to our museum!

We are also closed on Wednesday the 12th this week for some important maintenance

Museum Tours

Take Time Wandering or Join a Guided Tour

This is not history behind a glass wall. Walk among our exhibits. We encourage you to pick up the weapons and feel what they were like to handle. See re-creations of World War I trenches or the largest collection of uniforms of the times and listen to our guides tell stories that make history come alive.

School Tours

Make History Come Alive For Your Students

A visit to the Irish Military War Museum is a true interactive hands-on experience. Students will have the opportunity to tour the museum with a guide, handle original weapons and equipment, visit a replica World War I trench, watch a blank-firing weapon’s display with period weapons, and maybe even ride in a tank! Tours and expert talks can be tailored for individual schools because, at the end of the day, you know your students best! Tours must be pre-booked. Deposit required.
